1. Having lived up in the San Jose area for many years, I was really glad to see us finally get a chapter there, which you happen to now be the leader of.
(congrats again!) How long have you been in the Horror Drunx?
I have been a member of the Horror Drunx since January of this year. I began to notice that despite the vast array of Drunx of the
chapters, the Bay Area was underrepresented. That's when I asked our fearless leader, Mortimer A. London if I could get a San Jose Chapter started and my
fellow Drunx and I meet up regularly to watch old school horror ever since!
2. There are some cool creepy things in your area... The infamous haunted Winchester house, the Mystery Spot, The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum (with all the
Mummies and tomb artifacts), then just over the hill in Santa Cruz is the Boardwalk used for the filming location of THE LOST BOYS. Which of them (if any) do
you like the best, and why?
The Rosicrucian Museum is spectacular! Most of the time admittance is free and I love to look at all of the organ jars and embalming tools. Santa Cruz
is probably my favorite local creepy spot because besides the whole Lost Boys thing, many other classic movies were filmed there-there is footage of Vincent
Price riding the Big Dipper in the 50's. My favorite thing to do is gorge myself on corn dogs and funnel cake and then go on the Tilt a Whirl-BARF!
3. Is there a good horror scene in your area?
The scene has gotten much better since the installation of the San Jose Horror Drunx Chapter! Nearly every week there is something fun to do, whether
it be going to the Drive In, terrorizing bar flies at the local tavern or what have you. As Chapter Leader of the San Jose Horror Drunx, I make a point of
having other Drunx over to watch a scary movie or three.
4. What is your favorite theater to see a Horror film in, and why?
The best theater is the Capitol Drive-Ins. Great location for a date! It's the best place to (ahem) do other things besides watch the movie. ;)
5. What is the last horror film that you went to see at a theater and what were your impressions of it?
The last movie I saw in the theatre was Cloverfield and I thought it was a waste of money. The cinematography was really amateur. I know that that was
kinda the point, but after about 15 minutes you stop caring about the plot and you start feeling nauseous.
6. Top 5 favorite Horror films and why?
Hmmm, That's a toughie.
1. Day of the Dead
2. Evil Dead
3. Dracula (1931)
4. Dead Alive
5. Atom Age Vampire
I have a thing for zombie movies and always have. I also like vampire films and the original Dracula and Atom Age are spooky without being too pretentious.
7. What was the last horror film you saw that you absolutely hated, and why?
Stupid Rob Zombie's Halloween. It was so bad that I walked out. My friend really wanted to see it while I really could care less. I agreed to see
it if she paid for my ticket. 45 minutes into it, I was out the door. This 're-envisioning' is exactly the type of crap that the Horror Drunx. People
don't know that there are great movies out there that don't need to be redone by a Hollywood budget and a hack director. Bleah!
8. What is your favorite boozaholic beverage if any?
Jack Daniels is my absolute favorite! I got a waitress gig at a place called the "Feed and Fuel" and have been hooked on the stuff ever since!
9. What is your favorite "This one time I got really liquored up and..." story?
Hmm…I have more of those than I'd like to admit. While at a concert, I started talking to a hot guy while we were both in line for beer. Out of no where
his girlfriend (who was rather…hefty) tackled me and sucker punched me in the jaw. There was much hair-pulling, slapping, kicking, etc… It didn't hurt that
night, but the next morning I looked like something the cat dragged in!
10. One thing I really liked about the downtown San Jose scene, was that there were always tons of bicycles locked up in front of the clubs and bars. People
always had these great custom bikes they would ride there so they wouldn't get a DUI... That is until the S.J.P.D. started giving bike riders D.U.I.
tickets too. Do you have a custom bike and did you ever ride it to a club or bar? (Oh, and whenever I'm in San Jose I love going to my favorite pizza place
"House of Pizza"... Thumbs up or thumbs down on H.O.P. for you?)
SJPD does hand out DUI's for riding your bike (B.U.I's), I've even seen people get busted for them. Yeah, San Jose is an
awesome place…but I would make sure that you have a DD or money for a cab if you plan to go out on the town. As for "House of Pizza"-It rocks! I
highly recommend it. My roomie and I ordered a mushroom and pepper pie from them just last week!
11. Describe your ideal romantic evening... The company, the kind of food, the location, maybe what movie, etc.
This sounds kinda cheesy but oh well: A picnic at the cemetery sounds incredibly romantic! San Jose is a bit anal about hanging out in there
cemeteries, but Santa Cruz has lots of beautiful old graves-some right by the water! A picnic basket filled with sandwiches and beer and a couple blankets and
I'd be putty!!
12. If you were stuck on a desert island with one music album and one monster (or one horror movie actor), what and who would it be? And would there be
any romance involved?
The horror actor I'd want with me would be Bruce Campbell. And yes, I would use every trick in my flirting arsenal to make
"Ash" mine! As for the album…eh, that's tough since I listen mostly to mixed tapes but if I had to choose it would be the AC/DC Live
Album…whenever I listen to it my mind is flooded with memories of sneaking out and vandalizing private property. Good times!
13. Alright... Imagine you are at a creepy old drive-in movie theater with a date. The windows are steaming up a little, and y'know, stuff is happening,
the heat is rising, clothes are being discarded, wild abandon... Then in the middle of it all word comes over the radio that a homicidal axe wielding maniac
escaped from a nearby asylum and is headed toward the drive-in. What do you do?
Get the hell out of there, or continue making out with the added excitement factor? Describe the car, movie, weather, music on the radio, etc.
That's a pretty hot lil story there! It'd have to be a dark, stormy night with the wind howling through the trees. We'd be watching
"The Blob" or something along those lines. As for the axe murderer, I'd be sure to leave the doors unlocked, just in case he'd like to
join in! ;P
