Posts: 334 10/31/08 08:35:58	Tags : None NOVEMBER 1 - DIA DE LOS MAILA (DAY OF THE DEAD) - HOLLYWOOD, CA. Finally an organized public service for VAMPIRA aka actress Maila Nurmi. After her death early this year, many of her closest friends for decades were not even invited to her funeral by those in charge. A later public memorial was promised by them but never materialized. Now is the time. This is part of the bigger DIA DE LOS MUERTOS celebration that will be from around dusk until 11pm. There will be a $5 cover at the gate. Bands, food and vendors stands. Posts: 334 11/12/08 05:33:26	DIAS DE LA MAILA (Dias De La Muertos a.k.a. The Day Of The Dead) NOVEMBER 1st, 2008 Hollywood Forever Cemetery ABOVE: Sid Terror at the grave of Maila Nurmi a.k.a. Vampira. It was sprinkling for a short time, hence the umberella you see in some of these photos. ABOVE: Death Dolly and Sid Terror (who had been close friends with Maila for decades) made a nice altar for her for Dias De La Muertos. ABOVE: The altar which contained several of Maila's favorite foods and some personal items, sugar skulls, bread of the dead, flowers, a glass of rum, and one of Maila's favorite pictures which she had given to Sid. It was a great night and it felt like Maila was there feasting (and drinking with) The Horror Drunx and the large steady stream of people who had stopped by to pay their respects and talk about their rememberances of Maila. Also a part of the altar that night was a rare pair of "PJ's Of The Dead" (for when you want to Rest In Peace)... These were part of the TERRORWARE clothing line that Sid used to have. ABOVE: Some more people who stopped by to pay their respects with Mr. Terror and Death Dolly. ABOVE: I don't know if I believe in that stuff about spirits and ghosts showing up in photographs, but this is certainly a good case for it. This is a shot of Bridgett (from Kastle Grey Skull) and Sid Terror (Sid Terror's Undead) at Maila's grave / altar (lower right)... And no, the photographer (Mort) was not smoking at the time. It was also a digital camera, so there is no excuse that the film was defective. Spoooooooky. ABOVE: Our friends at Drunkrockers.com even dropped by to hitch a ride on this Horror Drunx event. ABOVE: Sid Terror pays respects to another departed long time friend of his that is at Hollywood Forever cemetery, Dee Dee Ramone. Many people may not know that Dee Dee and Joey Ramone both did cameos on the song "Supermarket Music" which was on the first single recorded and released by SID TERROR'S UNDEAD in 1977. Sid was for a short time also considered as Dee Dee's replacement when Dee Dee left the Ramones. ABOVE: Death Dolly pays homage to one of her favorite actors who is also at Hollywood Forever... Actor Darren McGavin, who you may remember as the Vampire hunter from the movies THE NIGHT STALKER, THE NIGHT STRANGLER and of course The Night Stalker TV series. Isn't it odd that Maila (aka VAMPIRA) has the grave of this Vampire hunter right behind the right shoulder of her own grave for eternity? Notice also there are some strange unexplained blurred movements in the top right of this photo also. There was certainly something in the air during this Day Of The Dead holiday celebration. ABOVE: Another of Maila's visitors Rests in Peace in Hollywood Forever cemetery. ABOVE: (L to R) Mortimer A. London and Sid Terror toast Maila Nurmi. R.I.P. Maila Nurmi a.k.a. Vampira. Hopefully by next year she will have a permanent grave marker. The Horror Drunx want to possibly make that happen for her (we were a large part of raising the funds for her burial plot) and are currently doing the footwork to work out the details. As that some complete moron has stolen her temporary marker, she needs a permanent one A.S.A.P. The baloney packed "Maila Nurmi Memorial Foundation" that popped up on MySpace a short time after her death seems to have dropped the ball and completely forgotten about her, having not even signed into the page since last June the last time we checked. Oh, and what happened to all the supposed "Rock Stars, Horror Actors, Documentary FIlm Makers and Horror Magazines" (ah-hem... Rue Morgue Magazine and Vampira The Movie) that were allegedly going to help make sure Maila had a tombstone? Well once the photo opps at her memorial service was over and they had cashed in by selling their magazines, CD's, and DVD's those Pumpkin Kickers seem to have quickly faded away and moved on to their next money making scheme. BUT THE HORROR DRUNX HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU VAMPIRA. With over 60 chapters world-wide and 65,000+ members, THE HORROR DRUNX should be able to secure a stone for her. Posts: 290 11/19/08 11:57:45	This is part of what I like most about The Horror Drunx. Other people that claim to love Horror are only making idle boasts. This shows the difference between the serious Horror lovers and those that are just full of cheap talk. Where were they? Who else but the HD would put the thought into doing something sentimental like this when it really counts? ...Remembering the lives and acheivements of those that are responsible for giving us so much joy. This should be a yearly event at the graves of all of our fallen greats. I'm touched. Keep up the good work Horror Drunx. Keep the fires burning.
