I've recently had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Spiess and James Travison on their current endeavors in creating the worlds first claymation zombie film, Brains The Movie.

JD: Thank you both for taking the time to speak with me to get the word out to all the Horror Drunx.

BM: Thank you very much for having us in your online magazine.

JD: How did the concept of the worlds first claymation zombie movie come about?

BM: Well, the concept of the movie first came to me (Brian) when I was wanting to figure out a new way to bring the zombie genre to people. I have always loved zombies and claymation. I thought it would be an awesome way to show zombies.

JD: Can you tell us about what is involved with shooting each frame of the movie and how tedious is this process?

BM: What is involved is that you have to make sure you are working with a stable set. Any bump would cause you to have to start over. It is really tedious because (with movie film) there are 24 picture frames that flash by in each second. It is going to take at least 80,000 pictures to make this film.

JD: I have read that there are some big names doing the voices. Are you at liberty to name drop or will we have to wait for the release?

BM: Yeah some of the actors we have in our film are Daniel Roebuck, who was in The River's Edge, The Devil's Rejects, The new Halloween (remake) movies, US Marshalls and many other movies and TV shows. We also have Chuck Williams, who was in Dark Walker, Bubba Hotep, and The Girls Next Door show.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Actor Daniel Roebuck is a good guy, so we try to give him a pass and ignore the fact he has been in some Rob Zombie movies, but fuckin' knock it off already, willya Dan? You're better than that!)

JD: Brains:The Movie is sll self financed, right?

BM: We had been approached by some money people, but in this case we wanted to do it on our own which without being too specific gave us the freedom we wanted.

JD: Without giving too much away, what is your basic storyline?

BM: There is bad meat circulating in area. In the movie we tell how the meat became tainted. We won't give that away yet. The basic story is three friends are trying to stay alive, but there is another story within the story. So there will be a lot of stuff going on. Both funny and freaky.

JD: Has anything crazy or bizarre happened on the set while shooting the film?

BM: Other than sneaking in and jumping onto the set...? Aside from that no.

JD: When is the projected release date for the film? And where will you plan on showcasing your film?

BM: We are hoping for sometime in October of 2010. We plan on showcasing it at all the major film festivals. We would also love to have it open in our home towns.

JD: Have either of you had previous experience on other films? If so, anything we may know?

BM: We have both done small little short films nothing that been shown to a big audiences.

JD: How familiar are you with the Horror Drunx Chapter? And why did you take the time with us today?

BM: I (Brian) have seen Horror Drunx on myspace and I thought it would be an awesome way to help spread the word out about our film. It seems like a cool Online magazine.

JD: Will there be Brains:The Movie part 2 ?

BM: There will be a part 2 for the film. Our movie is pretty deep and we would have a hard time to through it all in one movie. I mean we could but our grand kids would have to finish it, 'cause damn claymation takes so long to make.

JD: What is your opinion on remakes and sequels?

BM: Sequels are cool only if it isn't dragged on so long that it starts to not make sense. I loved Return of the Living dead. It's my favorite zombie movie. I love part 2 as well but then it just became kinda bad after that.

JD: What can we expect after Brains The Movie?

BM: Well, you can expect that we will make other horror genre movies in stopmotion. We may want to take a classic horror movie and do it in claymation.

JD: Alrighty, we'll be looking forward to it! Thanks for talking to us, guys. Good luck!

BM: Thanks for allowing us to do this interview. We really appreciate it!
